Tanisi, my name is Brittany Poitras and I am a Cree and Anishinaabe woman from Peepeekisis Cree Nation, in Treaty 4 territory. I am a fourth-year Indigenous Journalism and Communications (INCA) major, and a fourth-year Indigenous Studies (honors) major at the First Nations University.
Story-telling has always played a large role in my life, and I give thanks to my big family who always had the most interesting way of sharing stories. When I look back at all the movies and skits I made with my siblings, or the bed-time stories my Mushum told me, and the car conversations with my Kokum, I realize those acts of story-telling have become the memories I cherish the most in my life.
As an Indigenous person, it is very important to me that I participate in oral story-telling and I also like to help amplify other Indigenous stories in the process. My Indigenous Studies and INCA degrees at the FNUniv, paired with my work experience at CFNU Radio, have both been amazing for my growth in telling and sharing stories!
